2025 International Merit Scholarship Application
International Merit Scholarship
Georgia Southern University strongly values international students. As a sign of our support, Georgia Southern awards a limited number of International Merit Scholarships to international students. These competitive scholarships, valued at around $13,000 per year*, are awarded to selected international freshmen or international transfer students who demonstrate good academic standing, financial need, and a commitment to the university and community.
How Much Is The International Merit Scholarship Worth?
The International Merit Scholarship waives the out-of-state fee, charged to all international and out-of-state students. The Scholarship is valued at approximately $13,000 per year*, saving selected international students around $52,000 over four years!
If Selected For The Scholarship, How Much Will I Pay For Tuition?
Tuition and fees at Georgia Southern for international students is around $10,500 per semester. If awarded the International Merit Scholarship, you will only pay around $3,700 per semester for tuition and fees*.
*Tuition estimates are based on 15 credit hours per semester, not including room & board and mandatory health insurance.
Who Is Eligible For The Fee Waiver Scholarship?
New international freshmen or transfer students in F-1 Visa status beginning in the fall term are eligible to apply for an International Merit Scholarship. Applicants must be officially accepted for enrollment to Georgia Southern before being considered for the scholarship. Consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate good academic standing, financial need, and a commitment to the university and community. The International Merit Scholarship is not available to students beginning in the spring or summer terms. Currently enrolled international students are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.
How Do I Apply?
Complete the online Application for Undergraduate Admission and this Scholarship Application. As only a limited number of scholarships can be awarded, early application is strongly encouraged!
How Will I Find Out If I Have Been Awarded A Merit Scholarship?
Your scholarship application will be reviewed by a scholarship committee only after you have been accepted for admission. The Office of International Student Admissions and Programs will notify you of the scholarship committee’s decision no later than April 1. Again, as only a limited number of scholarships can be awarded, early scholarship and admission application is strongly encouraged.
Is the Scholarship Renewable?
Yes, the scholarship is renewable. Scholarships awarded to new international freshmen are renewable for eight semesters (four years) and scholarships awarded to international transfer students are renewable for four semesters (two years). Students must maintain an overall 2.5 GPA to renew the scholarship from year-to-year.
Can I Receive Scholarships In Addition To The Fee Waiver?
Yes, in addition to the International Merit Scholarship, Georgia Southern awards over 150 academic scholarships to incoming students each year. These scholarships are competitive and based off of high SAT scores and GPAs. You must submit the online Scholarship Application to be considered for these academic scholarships.
